The Artwork

Through decades of artistic developments, Valentino Vago has succeeded in developing a personal, unmistakable style and preserving it unadulterated.

Vagos' subtle compositions are based on a unique harmonization of color and surface. With an unmistakable sense of structure and balance, the painter distributes finely iridescent color areas on the canvas, juxtaposing them in horizontal stripes in irregular or irregular geometrical forms, often contrasted by solidified, linear elements.

Vago's works transform an ambience unobtrusive and gently influence its atmosphere without loudly dominating it. His art gives the viewer space for his own interpretations, conscious and unconscious perceptions, the unfolding of creative imagination.

The Artist

born 1931 in Barlassina – † Milan, Italy

The painter Valentino Vago first studied painting at the Brera Art Academy before moving on to architecture studies due to his family background. However, when he discovers the true meaning of painting for himself, he finally breaks with the profession of architect and with everything rational. Vago describes his motivation to become an artist as "the search for the path, to give a birth to the beauty of painting".

In principle, he uses his bare hands for the application of paint. His focus is on the purely intuitive working process, in which color comes to the fore as material, but at the same time excludes the idea for the final result. The dimensions of Vago's works range from smaller canvases to large spaces. The full effect of the colourfulness and the quality of Vago's works, can be experienced in another dimension when the viewer stands in front of Vago´s artworks.

Since graduating the Brera Academy of Fine Arts Valentino Vago has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including the Biennale de São Paulo, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, the Hayward Gallery in London, the Grand Palais in Paris and in the art museums in Frankfurt, Hannover, Vienna and Berlin. His works are part of private and public collections in Italy and abroad.
